General Information

Vervet Monkey

Distribution: Africa south of Sahara and West Indian islands of St. Kitts and Barbados. (Green monkey : West Africa – Grivet : Ethiopia and Sudan – Tantalus : from Uganda to Ghana). You can find them in the savanna, woodland edges, rainforests, urban parks and typically around riverine acacia trees. They like to travel on the ground and prefer open areas to forests.

Social groups: Groups of appr. 12 to 30 indiviuals.

Head + Body: 17.9-25.7 inches (46-66cm)
Tail: 19.5-28.1 inches (50-72cm)

Weight:

Females: 7-9 pounds (3.5-4.5kg)
Males: 9-10 pounds (4-5kg)

Color: Yellow to olivish with gray lower limbs and whith underparts. They have a black face with white cheek tufts and browband. There eyelids are white, there scrotum is bright blue and their penis is red.
