Reproduction

Females and Males become sexually mature at 4 to 5 years of age. Normally their menstrual cycle will occur every 14 to 20 days. Births can occur once every two
years (unless the infant dies before the next breeding season).

The gestation is appr 160 days.

At birth the infant will cling to the front of their mother. When it becomes a bit older they stay on the back (or shoulders) of their mother. After a period of three
months they start to explore their environment, but still they rely very much on their mother. The mother holds on the infant’s tail when he begins to walk on its own.

They always give birth of 1 baby.

After 3 months the youngster start to take some solid food.

After a period of 1 year the infants are largely weaned.

Capuchins can live up to 45 years in captivity.
