Distribution : tropical forests of the Amazon Basin and surrounding lands (Brazil, Peru, Bolivia, Columbia and Guyana) but also in Panama and Costa Rica. Squirrel monkeys can sometimes be found on the ground or in upper canopy levels, but they prefer the intermediate forest levels.
Social groups : Very large groups from 10 to several hundred animals. Squirrel monkeys aren’t territorial, they try to avoid other groups but are sometimes found together to search for food (not for a long time).
